One of the main questions I get when planning engagement sessions with couples is “where should we do our engagement session?” And rightfully so, it’s a sweet season in your life and you want your engagement session to be meaningful.
My first piece of advice is always to choose a location that reflects something about you two as a couple, whether it be an activity you enjoy together, a place that’s special to you or even a city that’s special to you. Maybe you go on coffee or brunch dates every weekend, maybe wineries or breweries are your thing. Maybe hiking is your favorite way to spend a day off together. All of these ideas are great launching points in picking a location!
Beyond that, there are a ton of great locations in central Virginia, so I thought I’d share some of my favorites as you’re planning your session!
Waterperry Farm
A short drive outside of Charlottesville. This property has endless gardens that each have their unique feel. It’s stunning in every season and has endless variety for your session!
UVA Grounds & Gardens
Of course UVA is going to be on the list because it’s one of the most beautiful places in town and many of my couples have ties to this beautiful school! The grounds are beautiful in any season!
King Family Vineyards
One of the best mountain views in Charlottesville! What more needs to be said?
Carter Mountain
An old favorite in Charlottesville for good reason. The orchards are gorgeous and the views are simply breathtaking! But, don’t try to head there on a weekend. This location is best on a weekday evening!
The Market at Grelen
The Market at Grelen not only has beautiful mountain views, but an awesome greenhouse and beautiful gardens as well! You can get such great variety all in one place!
Monticello Trail
This option is one of the few locations without a fee if that’s a concern. But don’t let that deter you. There are plenty of beautiful spots, and it’s right down the road from Carter Mountain. Summer and fall are my favorite times of year here.
Early Mountain
This gorgeous venue is about 35 minutes outside of Charlottesville. With a beautiful mountain view, vineyards, rolling hills and a beautiful rustic barn frame, it’s a favorite for the spring & fall!
Downtown Richmond
If a city vibe is more fitting, downtown Richmond has such great charm. From Carytown to the different avenues, there’s plenty of photo opportunity!
Seven Springs
This venue is just outside of Richmond and a perfect hidden spot. With the main house having colonial charm, a stunning tree-lined driveway and gorgeous magnolia trees, it’s a favorite for good reason!
Your favorite coffee shop, winery, brewery, or even your home!
Of course, new places are always becoming new favorites, so I’ll keep this post updated as I fall in love with locations.
