At-Home Summer Lifestyle Session in Staunton, VA: The Castle Family

Though fall has officially made it’s mark on Virginia, I can’t help but share this sweet session from this summer with the Castle family. Daisy had recently celebrated her first birthday, so they wanted to celebrate this season with a session at home.

At-home sessions always are a favorite of mine for so many reasons. Not only are they a unique backdrop that no other family can replicate, they are also a common ground for the children so they truly can be themselves. There’s an extra confidence in children when they are on their own ground, and they typically love to show me around or tell me about their home. It sparks a little something in them because they are so proud of the place they call home. It also helps parents to relax a little bit since they are familiar.

For the Castle family, we lucked out with gorgeous morning weather and the most beautiful summer light. We played in their backyard for a bit, spent some time on their porch swing, and then we spent a little time indoors. Rebekah mentioned to me that she took a photo of Hattie growing up in front of her bedroom window, so we recreated it a little bit with the two girls and my goodness, it’s one of my favorites. Both girls looking out the window in black and white…so classic and timeless, yet such a quintessential photo of childhood.
