Every time I show up to a new client’s home for their newborn session, there’s just something in the air.

A new life has been brought home and that’s not something to be taken lightly. The parents are so in love, there’s a bit of chaos among stillness, everything feels new, yet so right. There’s healing, there’s learning, there’s joy, and there is a wealth of love pouring in a home with a new baby. It’s an honor to be welcomed into that and it’s a joy to document this sweet season for amazing families!

The Adley family welcomed me over on a chilly winter day in January after they welcomed home their baby boy, Owen. The light was warm, the nursery was extra toasty for Owen and he was just as sweet and gentle as can be. My favorite moment? Maria tearing up as David shared some of the best first moments they’d had as a family of three. In her pure mama joy, she was simply savoring and that’s the very best thing I can hope for in a session – a family simply being together and enjoying one another. Isn’t that what it’s all about?

Sure, the nursery details are adorable (beyond adorable!), but the photos I hope to see on a clients’ walls are the photos that give someone a peek into those early days. Those first days home where emotions were high in the best kind of way. It’s an experience that can’t be described…all I can hope is that the photographs I create can be a tiny glimpse into how it all felt.
