When originally planning #thecherrytrek, one of Jeremy’s biggest destinations was Switzerland. Not necessarily a specific city, but he dreamed of seeing the Alps, as he thrives in the mountains. Truly, this guy feels most alive in the mountains. He loves everything about the mountains, so of course, the Alps had to be on his list. (Not that I don’t love mountains too….I’m just more of an ocean gal when it comes to vacation.)
So, as we were planning, I happened to remember a guy at the Apple Store telling me about his trip to Interlaken. I was spending my day at the apple store due to a laptop issue, so I heard a lot about Interlaken and it was hard to forget. Then, I researched photos and we were sold.
While talking about Switzerland with our friends, Brad & Jen, they mentioned they visited Lauterbrunnen and simply raved about it. So we did a little more research…and I happened upon the cutest Airbnb in Isenfluh, a tiny town just above Lauterbrunnen. It was the cheapest Airbnb in the area, and also the cutest…the catch was that it was just outside of Lauterbrunnen…and I’m so glad we did.
We rode a train from Cinque Terre to Milan, stayed overnight, and then caught an early train the next day to Interlaken. It was by far one of the most beautiful train rides, and we were mesmerized as we arrived in the mountains. From Interlaken, we took a train to Lauterbrunnen and finally a bus up the hill to the tiny town of Isenfluh…and we say tiny, we mean no more than 30-50 people tiny. And that may be pushing it.
It truly was the most quaint little area in Switzerland, and our windows opened up to endless mountain views. The forecast was rather grim for the weekend, and in a matter of days, we saw a bit of sunshine, a ton of rain and we even got snow. I was paranoid we’d get stuck…but apparently, a few feet of snow is nothing to the residents of the Alps. Ha!
We hiked, we had a mini staycation with some Netflix and we simply enjoyed the quiet. These mountains truly were unlike anything we’d ever seen, and Switzerland definitely showed off the entire weekend. What a magnificent place.
