Photography has always been a gateway to nostalgia for me. Sometimes nostalgia for things that I haven’t experienced. Part of that nostalgia is why I’ve always been so fond of iconic bridal portraits such as those of Jackie Kennedy and Grace Kelly…a more simple time. There’s something about a bride in anticipation and waiting in such a beautiful moment of her life. As a bride myself, the emotions of putting that beautiful veil and gown on is something I can’t quite explain.
All of these portraits and emotions inspired me to style a series of bridal portraits, a series I called “Iconic.”
I’ve always had a deep affection for black and white portraits, so I envisioned four different models/brides with four drastically different looks to showcase the modern bride in a timeless and classic way. I envisioned simple backgrounds, floods of beautiful natural light and black and white portraits.
I had so many wonderful friends and vendors in the area willing to help this dream come true and I’m still in awe that I had the opportunity to truly create portraits I’d dreamt of. The beauty and elegance of each woman in a unique way. Since the shoot, I’ve created a book of the iconic portraits that is fully black and white…and it tells the story in the way I had envisioned it, but I still wanted to share the photographs that I hold so near and dear, as personal work is always so encouraging and life-giving.
A few color portraits made their way into the posts, as they were just some of my favorites I had to share. I’ll be sharing the series in four parts, one bride per post so that each story can be told individually.
